Show Overview
Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, 'Wicked' is the story that tells how two unlikely friends become the 'Wicked Witch of the West' and 'Glinda the Good' from iconic film 'The Wizard of Oz'.
The two girls meet at Shiz university in the Land of Oz, where Glinda is beautiful and popular and Elphaba is an outcast; unpopular and vilified because of her emerald green skin. Together the girls go to meet the legendary Wizard but but it isn't quite as they expected and their lives ultimately take very different paths: Glinda is seduced by power as her popularity grows whilst Elphaba remains true to herself and to those around her.
No one expected 'Wicked' to be the monumental success it has become but on Broadway it went on to win 15 major awards including a Grammy and three Tonys. It opened in the West End in 2006 and continues to be a massive favourite amongst theatre goers and has already earned cult like status.
The music by Stephen Schwartz includes memorable favourites including 'Defying Gravity', 'Popular' and 'For Good'.
'Wicked' is a musical rich in imagination and fun whilst also being a commentary on being a Social outcast. It is a magical production with super music and staging. A must see!
