Show Overview
The Lion King is the hugely popular stage adaptation of the Disney film that was released in 1994.
It is about a pride of lions amidst the African plains and in particular about cub Simba whose father Mustafa is the King. His uncle Scar cannot bear that the young cub will be the next King and so plots to kill him and his father. His plan doesn't go quite according to plan and whilst Mustafa dies, young Simba lives. The evil Scar however convinces the youngster that his father's death was down to his own spirit of adventure and unable to face his family again, Simba flees. Scar sends Hyennas on his trail, certain to be rid of him but the cub finds friendship and safety with Timon the Meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog; they become his 'pride'.
Meanwhile Scar takes control of Mustafa's pride but food is scarce and no one is happy under his despotic reign. The lions need a hero, someone to chase the evil Scar away and lead the pride to prosperity.
By accident one day, Simba's young playmate Nala happens upon him and his unlikely companions and she reveals the harsh circumstances in which Simba's mother lives with the rest of the pride. The memory of his father and the truth he knows inside about his destiny spur the grown Simba on and he returns to face Scar, to show him who the real King is.
The Lion King is wonderful for children with the most amazing life size puppetry and dazzling costume and dancing. But adults too will be encapsulated with a production that carries the hallmark of a truly classic West End show. The music was written by Sir Elton John and Tim Rice and includes the award winning 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight'.
This is a must see.
