'Billy Elliot' is one of the most successful British films ever and its' transfer to the stage has proved to be equally inspiring, with the added bonus of music from Sir Elton John.
Billy is a young Northern lad living amidst a gritty and tough environment of mining and boxing. With and older brother and a father both facing the harsh realities of unemployment, there is a dark and sometimes violent setting to this wonderful account of a boy's fight for independence and freedom of choice.
There are working men's clubs, there is drinking, there is fighting and football; the local ballet class is for little girls but Billy finds himself encapsulated by the grace of the dance and secretly begins taking lessons. His father thinks he has been taking boxing lessons and so it comes as a devastating blow to find out his young son aspires to get esa scholarship to the Royal Ballet School.
'Billy Elliot' is a powerful story and emotional roller coaster ride interjected with fabulous music and awe inspiring dancing.
This young cast will amaze you with their skill and dedication to their roles; it is a wonderful production and not to missed.
